Life has substantially changed since my last blog post. The coronavirus has spread from Europe into the United States. Its rapid spread has caused many senators to shut down all non- essential business in their states and recommend a quarantine for all the state’s inhabitants. Pennsylvania has implemented these rules as my county has the most coronavirus cases in Pennsylvania. After this announcement, life went into hysteria. Colleges have shut down for the semester, sending all of their students home and transitioning into online learning for the remainder of the semester. The only businesses that remain open are grocery stores, hospitals, pharmacies, and gas stations. There have been unconfirmed rumors spreading like wildfire hinting at a country wide shut down. Life as we know it has taken a pause, and an unknown period is among us.
Being stuck in the house has been a challenge for me. This is my second quarantine; I self-isolated after coming home from Italy and now the government is mandating another 14- day quarantine. Today is day 8 of my second quarantine. I have tried to implement some healthy habits during my free time. I have tried to go for a run, walk my dog, or hike with my sister at least once a day. I have thrown some new healthy foods into my diet to keep myself feeling energized during the day. I have been focusing on getting my school work done ahead of time so I don’t fall behind in my studies. I have taken this time to catch up with my sister who has just gotten home from the University of Virginia for the semester. Even though this situation is unfortunate, it is important to make the most out of every situation. I am going to try to stay positive, remain healthy, and focus on my physical and mental health during this little break from the stressors of everyday life.
